Ute Lemper was stunning with her powerful voice doing original arrangements of some Berlin favourites. The way she used that satin sunray pleated gown - midnight blue naturally - to glide across the stage was reminiscent of the classic blue angel but with even greater elegance and impact. Such a shame she only did one show. Worth going to Berlin to see her again.

Ute deserves every star that is available ! It was for me truly an amazing event, for it took me back to my young years, when my friends and I sang all this songs.We loved cabaret ! My andrenaline was skyrocketing during this great performance and I was really compelled to sing loud along with Ute. So what else shall I say ? I believe truly, that Ute Lemper is one of a kind in this genre and I can not wait for her to come back to Australia. I surely will be there.It was truly a wonderful experience.

Thoroughly professional, flawless and enthralling. Songs in several languages, a polished performance and her backing muscians were superb.
Although I did not understand the words sung in French or Spanish or Yiddish, I did follow most of the words sung in German and English.
I especially liked the time frame from 1928 into the 80s and the more present.

What shall I say? Ute took me back into my youth in Germany when my friends and I would sing all these songs. WE loved Brecht and Piaf. While watching her great performance, my andrenaline went skyrocketing. I felt compelled to sing out loud with her, but had to really restrain myself. It was just a wonderful, wonderful experience for me, who is now 73 years old. I will feast on it in my mind for very long time. I hope Ute will come soon back to Australia. Assuredly, I will be there in the audienz. She truly is a great artist and deserves to be in the limelight. I would have loved to have met her and talk to her. All the best, Ute !

A fabulous night listening to a wonderful voice singing a great repertoire of songs. Beautiful songs and a great accompanying band . Very generous performance with the encores too! . Older songs were the ones I liked most . Shame the venue wasn't even more intimate- would have loved to have been surrounded by Lemper's powerful voice ..and perhaps the lighting could have been a little more dramatic -

The 2nd half of the performance was less challenging than the first half...thankfully.

Ute Lemper has a wonderful singing voice and in so many languages; she dances, floats around the stage, moving from one musician to another...in some respects this is an ensemble performance. The material [Weill et.al.] is timeless and makes little difference which language is employed to interpret it.

But at $100 a ticket you could expect a modest attempt at some basic staging such as a a back-lit screen...something more than the solitary red filter over a spotlight which was deployed on occasion.

Still the price of admission is more than rewarded by just hanging around for the 1st and 2nd encore ...exited wanting more.

Setlist: Too diverse to remember - from Berlin to Buenos Aires, Belgium to Broadway, from penthouse to whorehouse. Love, death, politics, materialism and more - in 5 languages this time (she has more). @

I first saw her live 7 years ago on her last visit to Sydney. I hope I don't have to wait another 7. Does she deserve the crown as world's Cabaret queen? On the basis of her repertoire, presence, vocal range, intensity, inhabiting her characters and engaging the audience - the answer is yes. My only reservation - when you are this good you are elevated to a bigger stage and the distance from the audience means that intimacy can be compromised. Her songs embraced Berlin cabaret, Argentinian tango, French street, Jacques Brel - with her own unique interpretation. Unforgettable.

Ute Lemper's concert was a reminder of what cabaret is all about: A great mix of old timers and contemporary people or events. A portrait of life as it unfolded in Berlin in so many different ways over the last hundred years. All this brought to the public in a great voice, just right for this genre. Ute is one of the few capable of making you feel the surroundings her song creates.
All this accompanied by an excellent small group of musicians, all masters in their own way. Their extremely well plaid, mostly subtle but perfectly well fitting backing makes this all work.
A most enjoyable evening. Pity there are so few around of this genre.
