Although his program was aimed at flute students, he played a range of pieces. There was something to appeal to all. He also has a wonderful sense of humour.

he sounded perfect, and i loved the fact that he had, piano, violins and cello as background, they were also brilliant, the sound of the opera house was so good, it was a full house, which is a very good sign, he also played a pipe, so i would reccomend the concert.

Before the concert I was wondering how a flautist could entertain for 90+ minutes. I need not have worried - what a great variety of items were played on the flute and the Irish whistle!

Marvellous selection of music which was both entertaining and gave ample opportunity for Galway to display his superb artistry. His stage presence is so engaging. His little anecdotes and comments on music were marvelous His virtuosity and laid back showmanship made it an unforgettable experience..

I am a flute player, and had been playing flute for over 10 years. Finally, I got the chance to see James Galway in real life. I was impressed with the skills and techniques of the performer. I was amazed with the sound and tone of James Galway's playing. Given my classical music background, I would prefer more classical/baroque music to be played. It would have been great if he could play a few movements from some concertos.
I love Regent Threatre as always. The sound and atomsphere are always perfect for me! One thing that I would complain about is the fact that I haven't seen enough advertisement to promote this event. I expect more ads around Melbourne! I only noticed the hidden poster at a cafe (completely by chance), saying that there was a James Galway concert. I am very glad that I have noticed this poster.

Just at the very low level of a private practice seesion at their own homes' basements.
The orchestra was seriously suffering from lack of a conductor and no one seemed to be caring to suggest or show any leadership... Not even James Galway.
Selected musical pieces did NOT represent any taste. Just a medley of ingredients in the same way you mix whatever that is available to prepare Haggis !...
The brochure which I had to pay 5 extra Dollars for it included a full page about Lady Galway with no direct relevance to this night's program.
Is he and the organisers going to respect the audience of their forthcoming concerts in Adelaide and Sydney more than what we saw in Melbourne ?... If yes, I wonder why ?!
Sorry Sir James.... You know better than anyone that it was a disappointing event !.... I'd better stick to my good memories of your 70's performances in which you showed me that playing flute without breathing was possible !

Great mix of classical and Irish music played brilliantly by Sir James and well supported by the other musicians.
Sir Jame's personality enriched his stage presence and presentation.

The Regent was a perfect venue with rich architecture and great aucoustics.
The absence of amplification accentuated the clarity of the magnificant flute playing we enjoyed .

Looking forward to any future concerts - perhaps a joint program with his wife !
Overall a great night .. We went back to Central Victoria well satisfied that the effort was well worthwhile.

Heard James Galway 30 years ago and he continues to be fantastic - age has certainly not affected his performance. Engages with the audience and thrills with his variety of pieces - classical and contemporary, flute and tin whistle! Really a must see event.

it was the evening to end all evenings.. from 8 to 10.30 pm we were treated to sublime music, excellent humour and wonderful camaraderie by sir james... he is a living legend our seats at the regent theatre were also first class and a steal at $50!!

Years ago we heard Sir James when he was just plain 'Jimmy' and the only seats we could get were in the choir seats behind the orchestra in the Sydney Opera House. Typically, he spent a good deal of the program facing those seated behind him – always conscious of his audience. The warmth of his character shone through in his recent concert at the Regent Theatre in his rapport with the audience both in speaking to them and playing for them. His encouragement to young flute players was a highlight of the night. His effortless performance reminded me of David Gower's comments: 'Making batting look this easy is damned hard work.' It all looked so easy, thanks to years of damned hard practice. And it sounded so beautiful.

A Virtuoso performance on flute by a most Genial Character. I do not think I will be lucky enough to see the like of this show again.

my daughter is studying for her amusa in flute.so some of the pieces we know of by heart , unfortunately we also picked up on some of his mistakes. I was disappointed to find some of his jokes quite poliictcal ,in australia we have an acceptance to other cultures and religions we don't take pot shots at them. I have heard sir james perform before and this time it did not meet my expectations.
