Both myself and my 5 year old daughter enjoyed this ballet performance.
It was certainly value for money. Act 3 was a little too long...apart from that it was most enjoyable!

Sleeping Beauty was a sight to behold. From the first moment the curtain was raised the beauty and wonder on stage held the attention of many a young attendee including my daughter. The dancing was first class as expected with Rachel as a spellbinding Aurora. This was our first time seeing the Australian Ballet perform but it will certainly not be our last with the impression left on my little dancer only wanting more.

Full length production of the perennial Sleeping Beauty, beautifully executed by all members of the Australian Ballet cast with an outstanding performance by Lucinda Dunn as Aurora. The costumes and scenery were elaborate with great attention to detail. One was whisked away into a world of fairies and fantasy to the wonderful score by Tchaikovsky. It is such a pleasure to be entertained in the full ballet tradition with a competent live orchestra. A thoroughly enjoyable evening. World class stuff!

This performance was unbelievable. Although my daughter aged 8 fell asleep it was a great night. She would of lasted if it was 30 minutes shorter. But that is the only criticism I have.
I loved her comment "Do they have special pointe shoes? They look flexible to me." What she means is that she knows the shoes are hard but the dances were moving them like they were rubber.
Outstanding performance.
Thank you The Australian Ballet.

We went along on the 17th December. Excellent production, great to see a full house. Staging was quite unique and told the story of Sleeping Beauty with a good adaptation of the traditional story line. 3 hrs overall felt to us about 20mins to long. But overall a great night and well done to the dancers, musicians and all those behind the scenes.

Beautiful dancing to beautiful music made the performance memorable, While we did not have the pleasure of seeing Lucinda Dunn as Aurora we were delighted at the performance of Rachel Rawlins and she was supported well by the entire company. The costuming and stage settings were excellent.

I took my two girls(7.30pm) my eldest is 5 and youngest is 2 !/2 years, they were both mesmerized, as I was. It was absolutely beautiful. It was surreal! It was unforgetable. It was as though the ballet came straight from the pages of a fairy tale. The music and dance was one.

The Australian ballet aptly demonstrated their incredible talents, their huge level of fitness and their commitment to bringing the best ballets to Melbourne.
I was mesmerized through all three dances, loved the continual movement of Por vos muerodance, the comedic routines of the Scuola di Ballo and the absolute frenzy of Dyad. My friend, who had never been to the ballet before, commented on the stage balance and the grace and strength of the dancers, she also loved it.
Well done.

Whilst I thought this was a lovely ballet, with wonderful dancing and costumes, and I would see it again, it was not the Nutcracker.
I know I will be called a traditionalist, but I think it should be called The Story of Clara (Nutcracker) as the story is not really the Nutcracker. The choreography with music in some sections was disappointing. My favourite piece in the original is the ' Chinese Dance' and this was taken literally as a dance in China, covered by a rickshaw in an over crowded Chinese street. No leaping/prancing or similar to the original. This was very disappointing as this is one of my favourite parts of the Ballet.
Also it is very slow in the being of the Ballet where they set up the story of Clara.
Overall thought I would recommend, but I would advise that you are not going to see the Nutcracker, it is a lovely ballet, but not the Nutcracker.
